Home sweet home!!

Well much to our complete disbelief we have completed the full circle and are back home.

After our last blog we continued down the east coast of oz. After a brief but entertaining day in Sydney we head for Ulladulla. Dalmeny near Narooma. We had a great camp on the hill over looking the sea. The weather was lovely until a brutal south west from hit us. From there we trickled further down the coast to Ulladulla where surf was not on the agenda due to no swell.

Lots of touring and even a fantastic day trip into Canberra. Neither Harry nor I had ever been Canberra and what a pleasant surprise it was. We toured New and old parliament house, drove around the city. We then spent the arvo at the Australian War memorial which was amazing. It was great for all of us. Catering for the kids as well. We even tracked down an old relative Bluey Truscott.

Back to Ulladulla and off down the coast. Merimbula was great. We arrived to huge swell but wrong wind direction. Even Saltwater was too big. Harry managed to surf the bar up to 6ft onshore alone. After the swell peaked and cleaned up we were able to surf Merimbula bar 3-4ft and clean fun. We had fun staying at Short Point. Even spent a day at Magic Mountain.

Off we head down the coast to into terrible weather. South west and 15 degrees. We decided to bypass the prom and on a whim decided to head home. We rocked up on Dawnie and Brucies door step at 9 pm. Huge surprise, even to us.

Next day we head off to the house. Cleaning and unpacking our lives. Then off to Point Leo camping for 3 weeks which we like to call transition!@#$?! Or maybe even denial. End of January we moved back in permanently.

Piper is now back at school doing Grade 3 and loving life. Enjoying seeing friends and formal education as opposed to home schooling. Marlon is at 4 year Kinder and slowly adjusting to life away from Mum, Dad and Piper. Harry is back at work and I am in the process of returning to work, both nursing and drafting.

Its lovely to be home, but life as “trailer trash” on the road was great and a time we will remember as the BEST year of our lives. It’s been a pleasure sharing our trip with all the looked at the blogg and we hope it inspires you too to explore our great southern land. Love to you all Mel, Harry, Piper and Marlon xxxxx

Broken Head to Sydney November 2008
Hello our dear family and friends, Greetings from South coast NSW. Lack of internet opportunity and electrical storms have hampered us blogging. On our previous blogg we were in Broken head northern NSW. We ended up spending a great 3 weeks here. We got 4 mid-large swells and surfed twice a day which was great. We got unreal beachies and The Pass @ Byron up to 5ft. Melis surfed with Danny Wills a couple of times and was in heaven. The Pass even served Melis up a couple of barrels!!
The social east coast continued as we caught up with Robyn, Chris, Bethany, Josh and Tassie Nicols. I even managed to get Robbie to Tandem surf @ The Pass with me!! The Family Poole: Nick, Jo, Georgia, Lucy, Ben whom we caught up with again at Forster. We also had a luxury moment with Peter and Sonia Wu @ The Byron which was lovely. The kids had a blast swimming, hot bath, Lollies, green hair and fun. Great to see you Son and Pete! We were also stoked to have a surf and beer with Troy Wilkinson and Heath Punshon (Plague) and of course the Family Zoric which was unreal.
After a reluctant exit from Broken we head down the coast, visiting Illuka, Yamba, Angourie, Broomes Head. The rain was torrential and the surf not flash. Onward we head for Coffs Harbour and "sunny Sawtell" where we had an awesome couple of days with our great traveling buddies Kaz, Scotty, Jake and Archie. We had a blast including Bootcamp and surfing sessions. Piper and Jake got some great waves! Piper also did the Ripcurls Girls day with Lee Winkler ( ex-pro) which was great. Went to the Pet porpoise pool and we all got to kiss Seals and Dolphins!! The visit to the Big Banana at Coffs was also an absolute must.
Off south we head. Spent a great week at Crescent Head where we lucked into 5-6ft swell first day. The next couple of days it dropped a foot or two but improved in quality and we all had great waves here. Even when the Point stopped breaking we had unreal beachies. Love the place. Lots of exploring the area too up to Hat Head and South West Rocks which were stunning.
Through Port Macquarie onto Forster. We ended up ¾ hour south of Forster @ Treachery Camp near Seal rocks. On arrival we again bought the rise in swell and Harry lapped up 5-6ft offshore, beachies. The private bush camp was unreal here. Camping just off the dunes with goannnas, snakes and Dingos everywhere. Open fires and plenty of rain. We met some unreal people here including Darren Oates who was raising money for Starlight Foundation by walking and surfing the coast between Tweed and Sydney. Lots of great tales, waves and laughs were had. We copped some crazy weather here. Lighting storms for 48 hours straight, Rained and rained and rained. See pics.
From the bush to Sunny Sydney. We stayed @ Narrabeen which was great. We spent the day in Sydney catching the ferry from Manly we went and saw Santa at David Jones, went to the top of Centrepoint Tower (79 stories) walked the Harbour Bridge. Had a beer at the Australian Hotel, walked the Opera House, caught a ferry to Neutral bay and caught up with our buddies Weiry and Mandy. No pics as the camera had run out of juice.
Now we find ourselves in Lake Tabourie 10km south of Ulladulla. Looking forward to a great couple of weeks before we complete our loop of oz.
A special to Thanks to our generous new friend Paulyne whom assisted us to north Sydney and onto meet Weiry and Mandy. Thank you for your offer to stay and Cremorne Point and Katoomba in the Blue Mountains.
Until next time Love and Chrissie smailes to you all.
Harry, Melis, Piper and Marlon.

Love across the great divide even after this year!

Hello everyone, today we write to you from Broken Head. A lovely little spot 5km south of Byron Bay for those not familiar. We have as usual had a great couple of weeks. Plenty of surfing and playing. Last time we blogged we were off to Dreamworld. We had a great day here. Harry and Piper especially going on all the scary rides. Piper is a real dare devil. She went on The Giant Drop (a free falling elevator seat drop 39 stories high 7 times (harry got the boohaas after 2 and Piper did it 5 times alone)!!!! Along with every other scary ride. Melis wouldn’t even go on it. We spent the afternoon at the water park, going down the drain hole on big floaty things and riding the blue ringed octopus.

The days that followed were wet, but with the promise of a rising swell we stayed optimistic. We were surfing twice a day at the Superbank and loving it despite the crowds. Last Friday the swell was forecast to rise. It did and we got nice 3-4 ft waves at the superbank. Melis was stoked as she got to surf with Steph Gilmore (World womens champ!) We left the same day and head to Broken Head. We set up and head down to Lennox for a squiz and were greet with nice 4-5 ft waves and 5 people. Harry had a blast. Thinking the swell had peaked we were amazed to wake the next morning to bigger swell. Harry surfed Lennox Head 6 foot with a couple of sneakers. (See pics) Harry and Melis then surfed great waves at The Pass @ Byron with a million other punters but it was good. The swell dropped quite quickly after that but we still get to all surf everyday a couple of times so we cant complain, especially in warm water!

Broken Head has been great. It has been quite social. We have caught up with the Zorics and had fun with Clay, Kirsty, Pete, Lisa. This week Robyn, Chris, Beth, Josh and Tassie Nicol, Jo, Nick, Georgia, Lucy and Ben Poole and have also graced us with there presence, great fun and games. We also were able to catch up with Nicky, Lakes, Georgia and Victoria O’Neill which was a pleasure. On the Goldy we also got to spend some great days with Mingo, Sharon, Shannon, Shawn and Shay Sykes which was a a lot of laughs and games. Really lovely to catch up with great friends from home.

Halloween was a blast. Despite the sever lack of dressups we managed to get the spook show happening for the Harrisons. Ooooooo Ghostly Mars and Piper Mummy gave us all nightmares!!!

Next we continue our southern migration to Angourie and Yamba which should be fantastic.

Lastly a huge Happy 50th Birthday to our mate Scratch, we miss you and know you had a great one!

Have a great Cup day. Until next time, love to you all

Coolangatta 20th October

Hello to all our lovely friends and Family! We hope you are enjoying the Spring thaw and sunshine. We are having a lovely time in our never ending summer in the place where every day is perfect!@#?! The sunshine coast was great, we managed to catch up with some friends including James, Kea, Madi, Tess and Angle Turner, Dale Pugsley (Pugs), Jeff Smith (holidaying with family) and Erica, Liam, Riley and Brodie McWilliams.

After a lovely weather and good surfs we head up from Coolum to Fraser Island. Had a great time. Really stunning place. Lake McKenzie was clear and warm, we spent hours paddle boarding across which was great. Indian Head was amazing, we were up really high overlooking deep water. We watched huge manta rays swimming and being chased by quite a large shark which was really entertaining. We were glad we didn’t loose any of the kids over the edge as you are really high up. The beach was great. We drove along the beach from north Noosa. The beach driving was like a highway.

Off we head down the gold coast off to the glitz and glamour!?! Have had some good surfs at the superbank. Not huge but clean and fun. Melis and Piper have had a blast surfing twice a day in warm clear water. Caught up with Besty down at Kingscliff.

We head off to North Stradbroke Island off Brisbane. A great spot that we would highly recommend. Low key, uncrowded and always an offshore wave that picks up heaps of swell. Great camping ground at Cylinder beach. Lots of whale watching and warm, clear water. We had a fantastic week camping here. After ferry back to the main land we had a lovely afternoon with Michelle, Stephen , Poppy and Ruby which was lovely. The kids loved playing with their cousins.

We are now back at Kirra Tourist Park. Nice!!! Off to Dreamworld tomorrow. I don’t know what we will now, as we have been bribing the kids with going to Dreamworld the whole trip!

Thinking of you all. Take care
